This Always Bothered Me... (Liv Tyler & LotR)
It always bothered me as to why Liv Tyler got billing over Viggo Mortensen in LotR.
Any thoughts?

Yes, I have some thoughts: but they are most assuredly not affiliated with the Lord of the Rings
But, as I am posting here, I should definitely contribute to the topic at hand. So here are my relevant thoughts...
It really doesn't matter that poor Viggo made less, because all actors of his magnitude make so much money already. And, unlike a band, they don't have to waste it all on drugs.
So, really, it won't be any sort of problem in the long run I suppose

She didn't get billing over Frodo or Gandalf so your theory is now officially obliterated.

I think it is because she was an up and coming actress at the time. Not many people had heard of Viggo then. Sean Astin and Elijah Wood were also mostly well-known actors and were in starring roles.

She had not and still has not established herself as a "big" actress, and btw she got billed way higher than Sean Astin.
They added more parts to the film for her character than any other. She barely appeared in the novels.
I agree that it was some sort of marketing scam, and an unfortunate one. Aragorn had LOADS more face time in that move than Arwen.
Viggo was robbed I tell you, ROBBED!!

now that you mention it, I did see more Liv Tyler in the movie than any other character, in fact she has more fact time in the third movie than christopher lee, who was the main villain and he didn't even made it into the film! now that something to be mad about

1) He's in the special edition version of the film.
2) He originally was not mentioned after The Two Towers book until the very end of Return of the King.
3) You are absolutely high if you think Liv Tyler had the most face time.
4) Unless English is not your native language, those drugs are absolutely killing your normal cognitive processes.

Enough with the personal attacks, if any of you bothered to read the forum guidelines (assuming you can read), you'd see that I am well within my rights to lock this thread. Instead, I choose to put it back on track, the subject is mature and makes a good point.
Ironically, yes, this was a personal attack. Feel free to get on with your lives.

That's a good point.

Hollywood politics.
Her lineage.
Her agent & herself making a good deal, for another.
She's been in well-respected if not popular films.
Viggo who?

Shallowness aside, there is the concept of a "male lead" and a "female lead"- even though LotR is essentially an ensemble peice, Arwen is the closest thing there is to a 'female lead.'

no, kazahana, your just a fan, like the rest of us ^^
and yeah, i think they addedd the bits for arwen and aowny (sp) cause otherwise, the story is going to come under heavy flack from the PC (political corectness) and feminist angle.
i admit it, im a girl, and i always read fantasy books, and love to play rpg and coloect the stuff, and as long as i stay away from games workshop items, i can find female charaters lol.
but i do think that LotR is, at its essence, a boys-go-forth-and-do-stuff-huzzah! type book.
if they didnt add some strong women chars, then there would be twice as much guy-guy yaohe (sp) about arragorn and legolas going about, and whoa, it would become the fantasy equivelent or Prisscilla, queen of the desert (which, admitidly, shares an actor, the guy that played elrond ^^)
*befor anyone screams, not saying that the chars, the writer or the film maker were gay ect. the writer just liked to be around blokes, to hang out with blokes.* (i dont hang out much with girls, so does that make me a anti-lesbian? nope, i just dont have much to talk to with other girls heheh)
